Matt+Diana | engagement

I met Matt on the tennis court recently–nice serve, solid ground strokes–and learned he’d be getting married soon. I was pleasantly surprised to have him call a week or so later, not for a game, but to talk photography. The more I heard, the more I knew I’d enjoy being a part of their day. He and Diana wanted to do engagement photos around the Allen Parkway and downtown areas they frequent when they get out for walks and runs, dates, and general relaxing with one another. Here’s a few shots from this recent session, and the link to their gallery.

HOTT Tennis | sports photography

The 2011 edition of the Houston Oilman’s Tennis Tournament (HOTT) hit the ground running this year–held March 31-April 2–with a shortened, three-day format, great weather the entire weekend (that’s new!) and a refreshed party area at the Giammalva Racquet Club. This year’s event rings in the 30th anniversary of the tournament, held continuously since 1981, for oil and gas operators and service providers. The quality of play was amazing; there were many new enthusiasts and former tourney/college players in the draw, raising the competitive level in all flights. The weather and new deck area also improved the overall social-event schedule throughout the weekend. The Checkered Past band rocked out the tunes during the dinner and dance Saturday night. Check out all the images from the weekend’s fun here.

Baker Hughes Golf Classic | sports photography

I’ll admit, I’d much rather be playing golf than photographing it. Growing up around the game, I just can’t shake the feeling I get when I’m on a golf course. I love being outdoors for one thing. And the game itself is at the root of my being. That’s not to say I’m an astute player; I’m just someone that loves it for all that it is.

When Baker Hughes tapped me for a client event recently, how could I say no.;)This was a fun shoot and who’s not happy tooling around the golf course? I could do this every day. The full gallery set is here.

Houston Downtown Alliance Emerging Leader’s Happy Hour | Event

Last night I hung out with a great group of Houston professionals called the Emerging Leaders (EL), a group within the Houston Downtown Alliance.  They hosted their first-ever “Summer Heat Wave” party at the Butterfly High Lounge on Capitol Street in downtown Houston.

The Southern Backtones were on hand, serving up some great sets while everyone chilled, enjoyed some adult beverages and caught up with one another. This band is Texas based and getting some phenomenal reach with recent awards and Hollywood exposure. Check out their music video for “Forever.” Oh, and go figure … I walk into the lounge, start talking to the band guys, and recognize that the bass player is someone I competed against in high-school tennis. (cross-town rivalry!)

If you’re in the Houston area, check out Emerging Leaders and get involved. They are the largest young professionals group in the city, exceeding 600 members and over 300 companies and organizations. EL promotes downtown businesses, supports philanthropic activities, and plans social events—all to encourage the professional development of all of its members.

Thanks again to Denise, Melissa and Mark for working with me on this event. Check out your images!
